Each time we check our newsfeeds, it’s front and center. We see and hear so much negative news that it’s enough to make one think all news is bad news, and there is nothing good to report.
The Age of Rage
Negative news permeates our daily lives. This can lead us into a perpetual state of anxiety and fear. It also prevents us from accomplishing what needs to be done, even though we’ve organized our to-do lists to support the positive goals we want to achieve.
And why is that? Because negative news are distracting. It grabs our attention and takes up real estate in our thoughts. It’s hard to shake bad news, and easy to get wrapped up in learning more about the backstory and how the current situation is unfolding. Truly, negative news are exhausting.
Watch this video for my three tips on how to keep a healthy mindset and stay focused on what you need to do.
How to Keep a Healthy Mindset
So, what can we do to manage our mindsets and accomplish what we need to do? Here are my top three tips for regaining control of your time and thoughts so that you can make headway with your goals.
- Limit exposure. Turn off notifications from newsfeeds and social media so you don’t lose your momentum each time you hear ‘bing!’
- Apply your energy where it is needed most. This means making yourself a priority by not allowing negative news to zap your energy. Allocate a specific amount of time to check your feeds and stick to your self-imposed time limits. With any habit you want to build, it gets easier in just a short amount of time.
- Commit to accomplishing five things each day, and prioritize the biggest time sucker first. Once the big thing is done, you’ll feel energized to tackle the little things.
It takes a conscious effort to develop a productivity mindset, but once you establish a routine that works for you and you start seeing the positive results, you’ll be happier, more successful, and in control of your thoughts and actions.
